Originally, those dogs were bred to be medium size guard dogs. Nowadays, they are mostly loving family companions. Those dogs look nearly imposing – they are large, muscular, and square-headed. Sometimes, they are called “Peter Pans” because of their playful nature and boundless energy.

They need three years to be considered fully matured. They are loyal to their family and love to play, but be careful because they are also headstrong, especially if you try to use harsh training methods with them. However, they are great family companions with a minimal grooming needs and legendary patience.

They are often distrustful of strangers at first, but will not be aggressive unless they perceive a threat to their families. Boxers are high spirited, happy, and energetic. This breed also makes a unique sound, called a “woo-woo” – especially when it wants something or is exited.

This is not a normal barking, rather the sound resembling the one provided above. If you would like to have a representative of this breed, remember that boxers mature slowly and act like rambunctious puppies for several years.
